Expert tutor

Sarah Jane Moon is a painter based in London and is Director of the Diploma in Portraiture at The Heatherley School of Fine Art. Her practice explores identity, and is characterised by vibrant, saturated colour, energetic mark making and rich impasto.

Alongside her own practice, Sarah has extensive experience teaching portraiture and fine art, including at degree level. Her teaching combines close observation and technical development with an emphasis on colour, expression and the development of an individual artistic voice.

Sarah has exhibited widely, including at the National Portrait Gallery and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. Her portrait of Peter Tatchell was acquired for the National Portrait Gallery Collection in 2024, followed by her portrait of Georgina Beyer for New Zealand’s national collection in 2025. She is Chair of Contemporary British Portrait Painters (CBPP) and her work is held in numerous public and private collections internationally.
