About the Workshop & Tutor
Those of you who are regular PAOTY watchers may recognise Tim from 2023 where he painted Lucian freud’s neice. Or some may be aware of Tim’s work adorning the walls of the mall galleries. Or, like our Larry, you might know him or re cognise him as he lives locally in Penzance.
Tim has a warm and enveloping presence when teaching, providing a down to earth and inclusive environment, whilst at the same time his wealth of experience and intelligence commands authority as he imparts his knowledge through demonstrations and 1-1 tuition.
You can find out more about Tim here.
These two day sessions were devised so that those of us that have already attended a course with Tim, and those who haven’t, can both gain benefit from tuition on an individual basis, whilst keeping the costs down by inviting the local community to come and sit for their portrait (but they get to keep their favourite painting) which saves on paying for models, and on these drop in sessions people will need to bring their own paint and brushes and ground etc. So it keeps the cost low at £40 per day and allows us to receive ongoing regular tuition from Tim. Tim may teach from the front for up to an hour at the beginning of the two days, suggesting ways of working, that people can follow or get on with their work The sessions will be tailored to those who sign up.
Tim will give everyone attending equal time no matter whether they are beginner or advanced practitioner.
Tim is excellent in teaching colour mixing, using greys to control tone and palette preparation, and if people want to he can show how to use the Camera Lucida to trace a photograph off the sitter onto their ground. However Tim can also teach people how to measure using comparative and other drawing methods and how to use Camera Lucida to check what isn’t working in a drawing or painting ….if the drawing is out.
In these ‘drop in’ sessions the tuition is more on an individual basis and so it is up to each individual to be open to discourse and intervention if they want to make use of Tim’s wealth of painting experience and knowledge. We can then make informed choices about what is useful to us and incorporate into regular practice.
