About the Workshop & Tutor

Most f us will likely have first seen Morag’s work during her time on Portrait Artist of the Year in 2022 where she ended up winning the entire series, and the filming of her commission preparatory painting/sketching sittings with Sir Lenny Henry took place in Newlyn Art Gallery. You can find out more about Morag here.

Whether we are looking to refine our oil painting techniques or further develop our drawing from life skills, this five day intensive large full figure portrait painting course will help guide our development.

Designed to be joyful, liberating, and deeply inspiring, intermediate to experienced painters are invited to step away from technical rules and traditional methods and lean into intuition, play, and emotional expression, while still aiming for accuracy in our depictions.

Throughout the five days we will be working on very large-scale paper and canvas, allowing more of our physically and its expression to be involved in the process.

We will approach line, colour, composition, and feeling through dynamic, energising exercises that use a range of materials chosen to excite and encourage trusting your instincts, gradually building confidence and momentum as we move towards creating a vibrant yet more considered piece of work over the last couple of days or so.

By the end of the course we will leave with a renewed sense of invigoration, permission, and possibility, and painting in a way that feels true to both our inner and outer worlds.

What is provided?

All equipment, drawing and painting mediums will be supplied, however it maybe we will ask you to bring your own large scale paper and/or canvas. We are awaiting advice on the ground we need from Morag and its price. We will inform you asap. A selection of teas and coffee, organic milk and plant based milk, plus a selection of treats will also be available.
